Species
There being worked on for aquaculture meaningful species. The advantage of Waterfruits systems is the ideal development environment to ensure that the necessary food, water and temperature relationships in "rapid" tests can all be made and taken into account natural reproduction environments to achieve breeding success and minimal losses. Particular attention is given to species that are over-fished despite high individual reproductive capacity in the oceans and represent great economic potential. Of these species (eg bluefin tuna) only their farmed offspring will reach the market and no breeding of wild fish. Wild caughts are required to stabilize the gene pool. Within the same scale breeding animals can be reintroduced, after special diet change.
Food chain
The ideal feeding is, of the composition, a nature-identical. Despite the immense ocean volume and its high regenerative capacity, as a function of temperature and flow, it is our example with trawl fishing, pollution, introduction and impact of breeding territories - managed to destabilize ecosystems. This has to fisheries a sweeping "success".
Waterfruits systems will examine their economic feasibility (investment costs, personnel costs, space requirements) and, at least in part, according existing studies (e.g. FAO), food chains, starting with the sunlight and microorganisms ... system itself breed additional animal proteins. The economic production of plant proteins is a solid, simple part of the Waterfruits development and expansion strategy. The production of animal protein from farmed animals (mainly fish) is considered, but will be relieved by the breeding of insects and invertebrates.

Energy
The energy demand is lower than comparable "closed-loop systems." The development cost refers only to the maximum use of locally produced energy, the passive and active reduction of consumption and the mass storage at the lowest possible losses.
Waterfruits systems should be powered by renewable energies regardless of the regional oil prices.
Seawater desalination
Even if Waterfruits has only evaporation losses, that will be reduced according to the location by geomety and technology, which can not be compensated by rain water entry (e.g. Northern Africa) are to be replaced by ground water. It is useful to develop energetic effective systems that generate fresh water from sea water. The combination of renewable energies and the opportunities to intensive agricultural production and drinking water are a topic that is processed in parallel with the expansion of aquaculture without compromising the returns of investors - the opposite is the case.
